BARC members Jeff, W5IPR, and Lance, W9DAE, participated in Parks on the Air in March 2025 by activating Lake Brownwood State Park.

Parks on the Air (POTA) is an international amateur radio program that encourages operators to take their radios outdoors and make contacts from national and state parks. The idea is to combine the fun of portable radio with the beauty of the outdoors.

  • Activators set up a temporary station inside a park and operate for a few hours or a full day. Their goal is to make at least 10 contacts for the activation to count.
  • POTA promotes emergency preparedness, builds operator skill, and connects the amateur radio community worldwide. It’s also a great excuse to enjoy nature while practicing the art of radio.
