A severe and wide-ranging ice storm scuttled the plans of many hams who intended to operate on Winter Field Day. Winter storm Fern stretched from the country’s east coast all the way to west Texas. The Brownwood Amateur Radio Club saw limited action, with club president, Nick, KI5TLG, making contacts on VHF with a Motorola XTS 5000, while Lance, W9DAE, worked a satellite with the ARRL 2M/70CM Yagi antenna.
